Comparison of Time for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Growth on L. J. Medium & Bact/alert 3d System
نویسنده
چکیده
Main problem for Mycobacterium tuberculosis growth is time. This study evaluates the performance of Bact/Alert 3D system for isolates and identification of mycobacteria. 100 clinical specimens from the chest and tuberculosis department were included. All were positive by Lowenstein Jensen (LJ) media in different time. All samples were also tested by Bact/ALERT 3D system for time management study. Samples were microscopically positive for Ziehl Neelsen staining. 25 negative controls were also studied. Maximum 76% samples showed positivity in 3 week and Minimum 10% positivity reported in 5 week of incubation in BacT/ALERT 3D system. On the other hand only 31% positivity reported in 3 week by LJ media. BacT/ALERT 3D system was suitable, less time consuming method over LJ media culture. It may be very useful not only to quick detection but also to provide faster treatment and a better prognosis.

Evaluation of BacT/ALERT 3D System for Mycobacteria Isolates
Background: The rapid diagnosis of mycobacterial infections is essential to implement the adequate antimicrobial therapy. This study evaluates the performance of the BacT/ALERT 3D system for isolates and identification of mycobacteria from clinical samples. Methods: 1011 clinical specimens from nonsterile and sterile body sites were studied from August 2010 to December 2012 at the National Refe...
متن کاملPerformance of the BacT Alert 3D System Versus Solid Media for Recovery and Drug Susceptibility Testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a Tertiary Hospital in Korea
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis (TB) is a major health problem, and accurate and rapid diagnosis of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extended drug-resistant (XDR) TB is important for appropriate treatment. In this study, performances of solid and liquid culture methods were compared with respect to MDR- and XDR-TB isolate recovery and drug susceptibility testing. METHODS Sputum specimens from 304 patien...
متن کاملEvaluation of BacT/Alert 3D liquid culture system for recovery of mycobacteria from clinical specimens using sodium dodecyl (lauryl) sulfate-NaOH decontamination.
A total of 52 mycobacterial isolates were recovered from 1,197 clinical specimens decontaminated by a sodium dodecyl (lauryl) sulfate (SDS)-NaOH protocol. Of these, 94% were recovered with the BacT/Alert 3D system (Organon Teknika, Durham, N.C.) and 79% were recovered on Löwenstein-Jensen (LJ) medium. Mean times to detection of organisms of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (n = 47) were 2...
متن کاملStandardization of first and second-line antitubercular susceptibility testing using BacT Alert 3D system: a report from a tertiary care centre in India.
Resurgence of multidrug resistant tuberculosis has lead to demand for rapid susceptibility testing. Conventional methods take > 3 weeks and are tedious. Automated methods have superseded them for first line drug susceptibility testing. An attempt was made to standardize first and second line susceptibility testing using the BacT Alert 3D system (Biomerieux). And compare results with Lowenstein ...

We compared the performance of the BacT/Alert MB system, that of the manual Bactec Myco/F Lytic procedure, and that of the Isolator 10 lysis-centrifugation system in the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteremia. Mean times to detection were 16.4 days for BacT/Alert MB versus 20.0 days for Myco/F Lytic, 16.5 days for BacT/Alert MB versus 23.8 days for Isolator 10, and 21.1 days for Bac...
